These then are the considerations which governed our approach to Saumarez Park Manor. The need to encourage the continued independence of the people occupying our luxury residential studios and the fully self contained apartments, while providing just as much personal attention and care for each individual, when and if it should become necessary, is our underlying objective.

 

The Directors of Saumarez Park Manor who have more than a decade of experience in providing specialised accommodation of this type on the mainland and Guernsey have created an attractive, landscaped environment featuring well designed accommodation which offers privacy, independence and self respect, while at the same time a high standard of personal care in maintenance free setting in the company of others.

Healthcare

As time passes, our needs and tastes evolve, our lifestyles and circumstances change. What was once a necessity can quickly become unimportant. What was too far in the future to consider seriously can become imminent.

 

The most important consideration is where and how we live. Until quite recently, the choice of living environment for the elderly and people facing retirement were few. Moving to a smaller more manageable home provided a reasonable short term solution but with the disadvantage of having little or no assistance should one’s heath deteriorate.

 

Sheltered housing provided the next obvious ‘stepping stone‘ offering more peace of mind in the way of security but nothing else. The prospect of yet another move to a nursing or residential care home and subsequent loss of independence would always be present with either of these options.

All too often neither of these solutions is entirely satisfactory yet why should you have to settle for second best when making such an important decision?

There is always the very real danger that the premature introduction of conventional residential care can hasten the advance of dependency – and the loss of privacy this inevitably entails.

Saumarez Park Manor offers a wide choice of accommodation ranging from spacious studios all with en-suite facilities to delightful one and two bedroom apartments.

Apartments
Apartments can be purchased upon a long term lease. This is a rare opportunity in Guernsey to achieve asset growth in a residential care setting.

 

Once you have bought the lease to your apartment which has a fully fitted kitchen, and paid an annual maintenance charge which includes full 24 hour emergency cover, you can decide just what a degree of service and care you require and you only pay for the services you actually require.

Studios
All the services you would expect with a modern hotel are provided at an inclusive price. Each spacious studio has a bedroom/lounge with full en-suite facilities and fees vary accordingly to location and size. A limited number of studios have a full kitchen to encourage independence. All have been carefully designed to combine luxury and style with security and low maintenance.

 

Naturally all rooms are fully carpeted and furnished although you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish. All studios are double glazed, power, telephone, and television aerial sockets are provided. Smoke and heat detectors are fitted as standard, as is the secure entry phone system to the main entrance hall.

 

A full catering service is available in our beautifully appointed dining room and you have the choice of taking meals there or being served in the privacy of your room. There is a resident’s kitchen if you fancy a light snack or wish to make a pot of tea or bake a cake for your guests. Alternatively our Care Staff will happily do so for you. The choice is always yours!

 

Facilities include a laundry room, large conservatory, an enclosed exercise pool, weekly mini bus outings and programme of social events. A limited number of larger studios are available for double occupancy.

Ideal location

It is difficult to think of a better location for our self contained apartments and fully serviced studios. Situated half a mile inland from Guernsey’s beautiful West Coast, the tranquil wooded atmosphere of adjacent Saumarez Park provides a perfect backdrop fro this unique development.

Brick pavious, green lawns, raised flower beds, provide interest and detail – and make an ideal setting for a leisurely stroll.

 

We can be found immediately opposite the main entrance to Saumarez Park and are conveniently situated on the bus routes giving frequent and regular access to the western coastal road or to the Town Centre.

Service and Care when you need it

Should you require any assistance from laundry and catering to hairdressing or physiotherapy, our helpful Care Staff will be only too happy to assist you.

 

Specialist Parker baths are available if required for assisted bathing and our Care Assistants will give you as much care as you require.

 

There is a 24 hour emergency care service to ensure peace of mind.

 

All residents are entitled to preferential rates at Summerland Nursing Home for short or long term care and our trained nurses make regular visits to ensure you receive the degree of care you need at no additional cost.

 

Maintenance of buildings and grounds is provided as is on site residential management to address any problem or queries.

 

It may be a comfort to know that many people have chosen to join us long before they have to because of advantages such a lifestyle has to offer.

 

Approached with a positive frame of mind, a move to Saumarez Park Manor can prove a new beginning which offers security, comfort, making new friends and the opportunity to enjoy the later years of life without having to cope with all the problems of maintaining a large family house. The loneliness of coping alone is one aspect most likely to cause stress and deterioration.

Fee Structure (2024)

Our accommodation is available to anybody, Open or Local Market status, who has lived within the Bailiwick of Guernsey for 10 years and is over the age of 65 years.

STUDIO BEDROOMS

The following are the daily rates per person for the provision of all services including full 24 hour personal care and supervision, laundry, light, heat, meals, bus outings and social activities.

  • Sharing Rooms: £133.77 per day | (£936.39 per week)
  • Single Studios: £169.00 per day | (£1,183.00 per week)
  • Double Studios: £187.00 per day | (£1,309.00 per week) (single occupancy)
  • Short term respite care £169.00 per day | (£1,183.00 per week)

All studios are generously proportioned with full en-suite facilities.

APARTMENTS

From time to time a limited number of attractive, spacious fully equipped one- and two-bedroom apartments with lounge, kitchen, bathroom, become available upon a lease re-sale basis.

Apartment rental (for single occupancy, when available):
£203.00 per day | (£1,421.00 per week) for the provision of all services including full 24 hour personal care and supervision, laundry, light, heat, meals, bus outings and social activities).

Please enquire re: double occupancy. The rate for two people in an apartment is £267.54 per day | (£1,872.78 per week).

ISLAND LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE SCHEME

States of Guernsey approved a ‘non means related’ long term care insurance scheme which commenced in April, 2003. Subject to assessment this will contribute £609.07 per week £87.01 per day) for Residential Care.
Our Administration Office (Tel: 255739) will be happy to discuss this in further detail with potential residents.

Rates from 1st January 2024

Any Resident from Saumarez Park Manor who requires full nursing care is given priority booking at Summerland House Nursing Home.

Assuming you are eligible for this weekly benefit and you are in possession of a valid Needs Assessment Panel Residential Certificate, issued by Health & Social Services Dept., our fees are :

Long Term Care Benefit:
This amount represents the maximum benefit payable, which is usually paid directly to the Residential Home.

 

Co-Payment:
The amount that has to be paid by you.

 

In the absence of a certificate from the Needs Assessment Panel, you will be liable for the full amount as shown in Column 1 (Room Rate).
